- If you have a Microsoft mouse installed in your system
- answer "yes" here. Contact Plus will then enable you
- to use the mouse in addition to the cursor keys.

- The "LEFT" mouse button will act as the "ENTER" key
- and the "RIGHT" mouse button as the "ESC" key.

- If the mouse movement is too fast, set the SPEED
- parameters to a large number (i.e. 99).

- Enter a number from "1 ... 99" as a measure of how
- mouse sensitivity. Higher numbers will slow the
- mouse down.

- This "X-SPEED" parameter will adjust the
- sensitivity of moving the mouse from "right to left".

- The "Y-SPEED" parameter will adjust the sensitivity of

- If you have an "EGA" or "VGA" card and monitor and wish
- to display "43" lines of text for an EGA and 50 lines
- for a VGA during the report browse and through the
- VIEW screen, select "yes" at the prompt.

- This option only works for computers with EGA/VGA
- monitors. Unpredictable results will occur if tried
- on non EGA/VGA monitors.

- Enter the label for the user defined field. You may
- customize this field in any way that suits your
- particular application.

- The first two user defined fields are character string
- fields that can be sorted and searched on from the
- CONTACT MENU. The first eight user defined fields can
- be sorted from the REPORT and MAIL/MERGE MENUS.

- For example, we can choose "REGION" as one of the
- fields. Then we can sort and select the contacts by
- the REGION field. Another example would be "SSNO" for
- social security number. The contacts can then be
- sorted and selected by social security number from any
- one of the "PAGES" under the "CONTACT MENU".

- Enter a label for the date field. Typical choices
- could be:

- first,last,next contact dates
- proposal date

- Enter "YES" and a history of all phone calls will be
- stored in the file "PHONELOG\PHONE.<uid>" located
- in the Contact Plus LAN directory. The "PHONE.<uid>"
- file will continue to grow as calls are appended. You
- will occassionally wish to delete the file as phone
- calls could fill your disk.

- The "PHONE.<uid>" file is simply an ASCII text file
- that can be printed or edited.

- Use the arrow keys to select the database to delete.
- Press "ENTER" when the highlight bar is over your
- choice. You cannot delete the currently open
- database.

- The database will be "PERMANENTLY" deleted.

- The associated database files will all be deleted.
- You may have to manually delete any FORM file or

- to change the settings for that particular machine ID
- from the previous menu.

- You have the capability of storing up to "30" machine
- types. The machine settings are stored in the
- subdirectory called ".\MACHINE" in files called:

- After defining a machine you may use the DOS COPY
- command to copy a machine ID to other machine ID's.
- This can save time during setup:

- serial port. Enter "COM1", "COM2", "COM3", or "COM4"
- if your modem is attached to "COM1", "COM2", "COM3"

- when the program starts up enter the string here.

- Make sure to start the string with the letters
- "AT" which is a hayes modem command that stands
- for "attention".

- dial phone. Enter "p" if it is a pulse or rotary

- If you are using standard 3 1/2 inch labels, then a
- setting of "6" is fine here. If you have custom labels
- with your shipping address pre-printed, you may wish
- to change the setting. There are typically 6 lines per
- inch ... adjust the setting accordingly.

- If you set the lines to "20", Contact Plus will first
- print out the label (which may take 6 lines) then
- print 14 blank lines. If the address only printed on 4
- lines, then 16 blank lines would be added at the end.

- If you have a "HP laser" or compatible with envelopes
- fed in from the side, select the "LASER" choice.
- Contact Plus will send the appropriate codes to place
- the laser printer into "landscape" mode along with
- settings appropriate for a typical #10 business
- envelope.

- If you wish to edit the setup codes, answer "Yes" to
- the prompt which will enable you to edit the printer
- INIT and RESET codes according to your printer.

- likely be using "LPT1". If you have a second printer

- printer port, however, you can direct the output of
- the report using the "capturefile" option and print
- the report to the "PRN" device.

- If you wish to send an initialization and reset string
- to the printer every time a report is printed answer

- the INIT string will be sent to the printer. After it

- automatically print bar codes conforming to US Postal
- guidelines based on the zip code.

- If you want to print your mailing labels in upper case
- enter "Y" at the prompt. Both envelopes and labels
- will be printed in upper case. Uppercase is
- recommended by the US Postal Service for American
- addresses.

- the labels and envelopes (using the "ALT-L" and
- "ALT-E" keys). This option only takes effect with the
- single labels and envelopes generated using the

- ask you if you wish the company names to be printed on
- the labels.

- printer. If you do, when "F2" is pressed, Contact Plus
- will save the screens using the line drawing character
- set instead of dashes "-", plus symbols "+" and pipe
- symbols "|".

- Your saved screens may look more attractive using this
- option. If the line drawing characters appear as a
- string of "MMMMMMMMMMMM's", you will want to enter "n"
- at this option.

- To see if it works on your printer do the following:

- 1) Set this option to "y"
- 2) Discard previous saved screens
- 3) Call up a calendar page
- 4) Enter "F2" to save the screen
- 5) Print the saved screen
- 6) Check the printed output

- The "printer end-of-line" is used to control the
- printer output at the end of the printed line. There
- are 4 options to set depending upon your printer. You
- may have to do a little bit of experimentation with
- this to get it right. Once it is set correctly, it
- will not have to be changed (as long as the switch
- settings on the printer do not change).

- "NL" newline character
- "CR" carriage return character
- "NL/CR" newline then carriage-return character
- "CR/NL" carriage-return then newline character

- Output is double spaced - try setting option to "CR".

- Output is overprinting or printing on one line -

- mail/merge mailing labels. The mailing labels will be
- printed to the right by the number of spaces you

- This adjustment only works for mail/merge labels, it
- has no effect on the individual LABEL function
- accessed using the "ALT-L" key.

- Use the UP/DOWN arrows to move from choice to choice
- and press ENTER on the appropriate choice.

- You must first create empty databases for use in
- Contact Plus LAN. Once the database has been
- created, you must put in at least "ONE USER"
- into that database using the "User Setup Menu".

- Use the "Machine Setup Menu" to set printer settings,
- modem/phone settings, mouse settings, etc.

- The "System Setup Menu" allows you to enter user
- defined fields for each database.

- The "Holiday Setup Menu" allows you to setup global
- database wide holidays or special dates. Any date
- appearing on a "system holiday" will appear with an
- asterisk. This is handy for scheduling company closing
- schedules.

- Use the "F2" save screen key to take a snapshot of
- screens in this program for later printing.

- report, press "ESC" to stop the listing.

- You have the following options:

- "Screen" - view output directly on the screen

- "Printer" - send the output directly to the
- printer

- "Capturefile" - send the output to a text file
- for later editing. If the text file
- already exists, you will be asked if
- you wish to replace the existing
- text file.

- While the report/form is printing you may press
- "SPACE" which will pause the printer; "ESC" will
- abort the printout.

- All database files will by updated and closed.

- allowing a deletion of the contact record. If the
- contact record is marked by someone else, the
- particular user is informed who has the record marked

- operations involving marking or unmarking contacts
- will slow down if set to "NO".

- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to position the cursor over
- the database to open and press ENTER.

- The database will be opened, allowing you to make
- changes to its settings.

- The "Machine Setup Menu" allows you to setup different
- machines with different capabilities. Each machine in
- your network should have a number assigned to it.

- For Example:

- Machine 1 has a mouse and a color monitor.
- Machine 2 has a color monitor and a printer.
- Machine 3 has a mono monitor only.

- The machine id gives you the ability to have users
- log into different machines without having to worry
- about the capabilities of each machine.

- If the environment variable "MID" is set, then Contact
- Plus LAN will "not" prompt you for the machine "ID"
- during the login process.

- More than one machine may share a "machine id". That
- is you can have several machines (if identically
- equipped) with the machine id "1".
